PerryThis guy, Perry, is as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside. June 14, 2021 was just another day. Our family was outside playing with water balloons and very excited that summer was upon us. Pool days, camps, VBS, golfing, and ice cream galore. Instead, we received a call that no parent could ever prepare themselves for. We were being admitted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for a high suspicion of leukemia. That long hospital stay brought worry, endless tears, anxiety, sleepless nights, lots of hugs, support from our family, friends, and people we had never even met, and so much love. We were so fortunate to be in the best hands at Children’s, but couldn’t help but think that this just wasn’t right. No child should be confined to a single floor at a hospital. They should be running and playing, doing all the things a kid deserves. Because of covid and the health and safety of the children, there were tighter restrictions at the hospital. Play rooms full of very enticing toys and games were closed, limitations on the family lounges and teen rooms.We were fortunate to leave the hospital and continue treatment outpatient. Just because we weren’t at the hospital didn’t mean my mind wasn’t there. Thinking of those kids and families who aren’t as fortunate and won’t be leaving the hospital anytime soon. — Perry

one day & co explainedWhen we learned of Perry’s leukemia diagnosis, my mama heart shattered. How were we going to get through this? I found myself easily overcome with worry, fear, and anxiety. Our grim reality is that we are all, or will inevitably be, faced with hard times, but we must find reasons to be thankful and remind ourselves to take things one day at a time. I remind myself of this over and over throughout the day, because it’s truly the only way I can get through sometimes. One day at a time, Brittny. One day we will be back to “normal.”And that is how one day & co was born. I, Perry’s mom, create and hand-make the bracelets you see on this website. I started them as a way to raise money for kids and families on the oncology and hematology floors at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I felt a calling to help bring any glimmer of happiness and comfort possible to the families there. Why? Because we were one of them. And still are as Perry’s treatment is far from over. What I didn’t realize was how much these bracelets were helping me too. They help focus my mind and focus on the really amazing things we have to be thankful for. You’ll notice there are a lot of different bracelets available. I want you to find a bracelet you love; and if you don’t, let’s work together to create something you do. So… These bracelets are for me. They’re for you. But most of all they’re to bring as much happiness to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Oncology & Hematology floors as those kiddos and their families deserve. All proceeds from one day & co will directly benefit the children and families on the oncology and hematology floor at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the hospital responsible for continuing to save Perry’s life. — one day & co
